MEET THE STUDENT
I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and was born and raised Nigerian. I’m the child of two Nigerian immigrants and the last child of three, so I have some spicy last-child tendencies. But I’m really grateful to learn from the two siblings before me and see the world as they experienced it as well. Ten years ago, I went through a really unique hospitalization that taught me about mental resilience and the connection of mind and body. It became a passion for me and I saw myself investing in it, learning about it and seeing it as a resource to help others in their journey.
I then went to work at an organic, local private regional retailer, but I wanted to accelerate my business expertise. So I took a role at T. Rowe Price in finance and that’s where I really took to the world of business, and the high professionalism that we find here at Berkeley Haas. But I was still yearning to get back to some of the passions I had in consumer health and organic food and wellness. So that’s when I applied to Berkeley. I knew it would be a good decision to combine entrepreneurship with real lifestyle goals, but also my real passions.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP GOALS
My entrepreneurship goals are to join the Berkeley world and ecosystem of startups and launch my own startup at the intersection of food and consumer health and wellness. I have several ideas that I’m coming to Berkeley to validate and test. I’m hoping to go through the Lean LaunchPad. It’s interesting how the business world today is not like it was 10 years ago, when you built a business behind closed doors. You built a business plan and never engaged the customer in any process of product development. That notion has really changed and Berkeley is probably the best place to jump into the more agile methodology of launching a startup and engaging the community in the development of your startup. So I’m looking to find resources to promote action and mobilize my ideas over this two year journey and graduate with a real venture that is operating.
LOOKING FOR HELP WITH
Access to investors that are Berkeley friendly. I think that Berkeley entrepreneurs have a specific kind of je ne sais quoi and intelligence, combined with the capability or inspiration to do good in the world, I would say, this sets us apart. I would love to know investors who are committed to supporting Berkeley founders.
I’d also like to find mentorship in the Berkeley community. Folks that are invested in other industries outside of AI. I know that technology is our strong suit; we’re leaders in technology. But we can be leaders in other verticals too. Because we have the ecosystem, intellect and support. I think it’s a matter of just finding those resources on campus.
